Where's the Bermuda high

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

#1 Postby boca » Mon Aug 01, 2005 7:08 am

When will the Bermuda high make a reappearence. If it was out there 92L would be moving westward not northward.People were saying that the conditions are the same as last year I think totally different not on tropical development but steering currents for these storms.

Remember there was a big trough that pushed toward the East coast of the U.S. last week and weakened the ridge. Also, the North Atlantic Oscillation has been in a strong negative phase which usually means weak ridging. There were some other discussions about it on this board.

It was suppose to remain negative at least through the end of July, according to some area forecast discussion out of NWS Melbourne. They also said that it would likely switch back to a positive phase soon which would likely mean stronger ridging.

I am not an expert on the NAO, this was just the information from the NWS.

Maybe some of the pro mets on here will have more to offer.

I guess when the NAO goes positive the tropics will pick up.
