My August Prediction

#1 Postby floridahurricaneguy » Sun Jul 31, 2005 8:50 pm

Well here is my first prediction posted on here. This is what I expect for august.

Named Storms:9
Hurricanes: 5
Major Hurricanes:3
US Landfalling Storms:3
Cat 5: 1 Possible(hit usa?)
So who thinks somewhere in Florida other then the always hit panhandle will be affected by a storm. My gut is Tampa will finally get its major hit in a long time.

No were not charley was ours. But he changed his mind so were good for awhile :) I cant go through another season like last year. Craziness and lots of plastic wrap over the gas not very good times.

Then, according to your prediction, the Atlantic season will have 16 storms by August 31st. Crazy!

So we're gonna be at 16 storms with September still to come? I think you're getting a little carried away.

Well maybe it is high. Its late. lol Maybe I will say through august/september. People are trying to covince me on one board that my chances of a hurricane are same for my old home in Meridian and new place in tampa. Can that be right?

9 might be 1 or 2 too high... but it's not out of the realm of possibility. Who would have seriously predicted 5! in July...

Are we overdue here in Tampa? One thing is when the storms make landfall on the East coast and make its way over here. What happen if Tampa Bay have a direct hit?

Tampa is very overdue. They have not had a direct hit since like 1921. Should a major hurricane make a direct hit on Tampa Bay, it would be devastating. All the water would be pushed into the bay and major coastal flooding would occur. In my opinion its just a matter of time when Tampa gets its hit. But even a CAT 5 Landfalling in the east could still be bad for Tampa.

way too high on these numbers. It will be more like:

Named Storms:4
Hurricanes: 2
Major Hurricanes:1
US Landfalling Storms:0
Cat 5: 0

September will be the month to watch.

August is usually nearly as active as September, plus this is the 2005 season.

Don't forget about the SAL. It will be here through August but I think it will back off some in Sept.

SAL wont be here all the time. Its overrated IMO. SAL is here every season.

You don't want to be near Tampa Bay if you get a direct hit from a major hurricane(i.e., coming in just NW). Surge would be absolutely devastating.

I don't know... 4 looks like a pretty normal August, IMO. We can't keep up this pace forever, or we'll end up with 30 storms. Just because we've had a strong July doesn't necessarily mean we'll have a strong August as well, and there are already indications in place that there will be a slow start to the month.

Named storms: 6
Hurricanes: 4
Major hurricanes: 2

Landfalling storms: 3 (2 TS's and 1 Hur)

August won't be the month. It'll be the lull between July and September, when the real action will begin.
