The "center" doesn't explode... the center is the same center that was there when it was exposed. The convection over the storm has exploded. It's a sign of strengthening.

Franklin's been all over the place. Everywhere except hurricane status! I'd be incredibly surprised if he makes it. Anyone know if there's a record for the longest amount of time that a storm has been in existance BEFORE it reached hurricane status? I mean, Franklin must be going on a week here.

It means that Franklin is back in the game. If you read the latest NHC discussion it says Frankie might become a hurricane in a day or so if this strengthening trend continues.
Finally!!! He makes up his mind

I'll bite.
Hurricane Dennis from 1981 took 23 days, but was a tropical wave for three of those days (after it reformed, it took 5 days).
Hurricane Lisa last year took 11.5 days as a tropical cyclone.
If Franklin takes 6 more days (unlikely) it would take the record.

I think it might become a hurricane if the trough holds off

That big trough mike18xx said was too weak to push Franklin is appearing and pushing Franklin.
The storm has a good medium burst over it now over the Gulf Stream.
Wicked hot and humid here at night in SW Florida. 80* 2am. West wind from the Gulf bringing humid air. African dust was thick today causing haze and hazy sun...
