I'm eager to see what Dr. Gray does with his numbers, based on the
record setting activity to date. His update for the 2005 season is due out
August 1st - next Monday.

Sorry for the confusion!!
I seperated them into each category - the number of days that each storm spent in its stage of development (TD, TD H, IH)
That will make this graph correlate with the numbers Dr. Gray uses -
names storms, hurricane days, intense hurricane days, etc.
Does that make sense?

I think it is possible because so far this season we have either had a tropical storm (Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Franklin, Gert) or a major hurricane (Dennis, Emily). Both dennis and emily weren't reg. hurricanes for very long before they had some sort of explosive convection and turned into a major hurricane.
I think that if Franklin hadn't of been hit by that shear it would either have died out by now by either turning to land or dieing out at sea or since Franklin was in the favorable enviroment (minus the SHEAR) over the bahamas it would have at least become a strong cat. 2 - a weak cat. three

He's not counting days spent in the "Intense Hurricane" category as also being in the "Hurricane" category.
In other words, Hurricane Days = days at Cat 1 or Cat 2 status. Intense Hurricane Days = days at Cat 3, 4, or 5 status.
