Lucky me!

#1 Postby NC George » Thu Jul 21, 2005 4:04 pm

I have to drive from coastal NC to Winter Haven, FL tomorrow for my cousin's wedding. Who picks a late July wedding in Florida? What are the chances I'm going to be in tropical weather this weekend, as I am driving back Sunday?

You are DOOMED. I repeat...DOOMED.

Just kidding. I think it's unknown, what this thing is going to do yet. Keep an eye on it.

Just try to focus on the wedding man. These tropical systems have created alot of headaches for many of us already.

By Sunday either he will still be meandering around in a circle or will have made up his mind to go fishing. JMO.

NC George - we Central Floridians are seasoned at surviving hurricanes. This little thing will not cause us much worry. If it does, give me a holler and you can come over to my house in Lakeland. :D

Definately dress cool. It has been in the mid 90's through much of interior Central Florida.

Exact same temp here in the Carolinas, in fact, the heat index has been over 105 for the past 6 days now! I bought a new suit to go the the wedding (old one didn't fit anymore, I really don't wear them except at special occasions.) First words out the salesmen's mouth when we asked to see a selection was this one is tropical weight. I immediately replied that that was probably the one I wanted.

Regarding the timing of the wedding, I was speaking more of the heat than the hurricane threat.

Speaking of the hurricane threat, sadly, we here in Eastern NC have been experiencing the upswing in landfalling hurricanes for the past decade, so I am no stranger to hurricanes. My aunt in Winter Haven, whose daughter is being wed, still has a 'blue roof' because she refuses to pay for an estimate. One good thing: my hotel was renovated earlier this year, undoubtedly due to hurricane damage.

I just hope this isn't setting up to be a replay of last year, because the important trip is later this September (Carolina vs the Dolphins, and yes, I am a DOLPHINS fan.) Had tickets to the Miami/Pittsburgh game last year, but we couldn't make it through Jeanne, who was blocking the route between NC and Miami, and our hotel reservations were cancelled (perhaps because it was oceanfront in Ft. Lauderdale.)
