Any word on northern Mexico evacuations?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Any word on northern Mexico evacuations?

#1 Postby wxmann_91 » Tue Jul 19, 2005 6:30 pm

We've been talking about how Em might affect S TX lately, but what about the folks in Mexico? You know, a storm hitting Mex (even if it's less than 100 miles south of the border) gets less than a quarter of the attention it does when it hits the US.

Well anyway back on topic...I've haven't read a single news article about northern Mexico evacuations, and with Emily taking a jog west-southwestward, I'm getting concerned. And according to this map, northern Mexico isn't as unpopulated as many say it to be, there are actually a few small towns along the beach in northern Mexico. Should Emily strengthen to a Cat 4, the storm surge could kill dozens.

Or, as mentioned in the first paragraph, the media doesn't care, evacuations have been complete, Mexicans are well prepared.

As I mentioned in an earlier thread, A Mexico City newspaper reported yester day that a red alert was declared in the state that Emily is going to make landfall in and that evacuation were taking place in Matamoros, Aldama, San Fernando and Soto La Marina.
