Preparing for the Worst & Hoping For the BEST!

#1 Postby Dean4Storms » Fri Jul 08, 2005 9:01 pm

Just want to tell everyone to be safe and play it safe. I'll be boarding up first thing in the morning and heading for GA. I don't know if I'll have time to tell everyone to take care before I scoot tomorrow so thought I'd say it tonight.

I'm just to close to the water on both sides to ride this one out. My Davis Vantage Pro Weather Station will be running if it remains intact outside and I'll let everyone know what it recorded once I return and get power back to this computer.

This one has everyone here worried and I'm getting there myself.

Take Care.

Any body got an approximate time as to when the winds are going to be too bad to drive?
I have to be at work at 0630 Sunday morning and live out by Big Lagoon. I have to drive all the way across town to Scenic Highway. Do ya think the winds will pick up up in the early sunday morning hours or is it gonna be good enough to drive in?

Call in sick!! Seriously, though, according to the NHC, that's about 12 hours before the time it will be landfalling if the present track verifies. So one wouldn't think it would be tooooo bad. The drive home, on the other hand, might be a little hairy!

Dean, Roads were already backed up in Niceville to Shalimar this aft at 4:00pm all the damn tourists getting out. I would go now if you are going to go. God bless you and your family and safe travels. You might want to go through Wing, AL to Georgiana, AL to catch 65. Used to take the back roads in college and not many ppl know about that :)

Anyone down there in the path of Dennis...head to GA if you can get here. We usually end up with winds and rain from these gulf 'canes, but not the kind ya'll get. I'm pretty sure we still have plenty of hotel rooms (unlike Floyd...where there weren't even rooms all the way to Chattanooga, TN).

We're happy to have ANY and ALL of you. We want you safe and sound...so you can go back and take care of putting things right in our vacation destination(s). (a yep...I'd be one of those nasty damn tourists from Atlanta). ;)

But seriously, if you don't feel like its a safe bet riding this one out, head to the Peach State. We won't even call ya damn tourists either. ;)

BE SMART and SAFE. Get out if you think you need to and have the time to safely get out. Don't wait till the last minute and get stuck on the highways (ala all those millions from Floyd).

Without the tourists $$, there would not be an economy strong enough to support so many of the full-timers down there. Damn. Us nasty tourists are a mixed blessing. ;)

Jeny

edit: But, not to worry about this "damn tourist" messing things up anymore. I believe I've found our new destination--Texas. Love it!! Even with all the 100F + days. That's why God created pools. Plus: No sharks. :D

Hurricanes that travel from South to North tend to become elongated, not the classic buzzsaw shape one would normally associate with a hurricane.

So you will have less time than you think you have.

Squalls are already reaching Tampa and Dennis has just left the Cuban coast. Just call out. Any boss worth their salt will understand.

Got a short time this AM beofre I begin to board up. Thought about staying till I saw the recent pressure drops and the blow-up of convection, looks like Dennis will rebound.

I don't have anything against tourists, except those that drive down the road looking left and right instead of straight ahead. The Developers and County officials are the ones who made the traffic what it is, they haven't built enough roads and they keep allowing them to throw up 18 story Condo's.

Thanks everyone, plan to leave unless Dennis tracks further westward today by 5pm and then I'm out of here.
