CRITICAL DECISIONS - PLEASE READ !!!!

#1 Postby dhweather » Thu Jul 07, 2005 3:00 pm

Storm2k exists to promote weather knowledge and facilitate a place to
learn and discuss all types of weather, not just tropical weather.

When it comes time for decisions about protecting property and
more importantly, making life or death decisions, such as evacuations,
PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS
FOR GUIDANCE.

Your local officials will have the best knowledge about evacuation zones,
who needs to leave, who needs to stay, where should people go and what
type of weather to expect in your area.

Also, please pass the word along. I won't tell you how many people I talked to today who had no idea that a hurricane was coming into the GOM.

Very sound advice. Good post, some on this board will need this advice in the coming days- sooner in the Carib.

I hope a mod will make this a sticky!

While most of us are completely addicted to storm2k, and we have great
mods, we can't completely control the misinformation that gets put out,
and the people that are out to stir things up intentionally, also known as
trolls.

I just don't see how that is. People don't read newspapers, watch TV or get on the internet? I guess it's just me... but I always know what's going on by some type of media... even my cell phone

You'd be surprised. People get caught up in their own little world and decide not to watch the news for just one day and BAM they get caught with their pants down. Some folks just don't care about any news at all, or have no means of getting any news--particularly in the more remote or economically lacking places.

Also, if you plan to leave, please don't wait until the last minute. You don't want to be on the roads with tropical storm force winds bearing down on you. I'm personally planning to leave tomorrow.

Often people do not prepare until they are convinced that the storm is heading in their direction and that is often too late.
I cannot tell you the times we have boarded up our house and nothing happened.
it is a hassle but you can't afford not to do it.

CJ, do you recall the lady, last year, who had a disabled husband and her pets and kept asking US if she should leave??? She had just become aware of the storm at her back door. It is amazing how many people who do not keep up with what is going on in their world.

Come on dh, you know better than to post logical stuff. How about the real critical decisions:

a) Will it be microbrewed beer or imported?
b) should the beer go into an ice chest or the refrigerator?
c) Do I need an extra carton of cigarettes in case the stores are closed for an extended period of time?
d) Do I have enough toilet paper and/or brown bags and/or dirty socks?
e) For the women: Am I stacked on my feminine supplies, makeup and hairspray?
f) Do I try to sneak the great dane/St. Bernard into the hotel if I choose to evacuate?
g) Should I really tell anyone else where I'm going?
h) Do I borrow my brother-in-law's 3006 to scare away the looters and/or fight back against the reptiles and/or rodents?

-you know, the important stuff :)
