Question for the Board

#1 Postby wxcrazytwo » Thu Jul 07, 2005 8:24 am

It looks like Dennis is heading NW towards the eastern part of Jamiaca on up. What are the possibilities of this thing going straigt hit to LA? I just don't see hit going straight to LA without skirting by FL west coast. I still think the FL west coast is going to get screwed on this with the eastern portion hitting us. Any thoughts.

My feeling, my guess :( is that we are going to get scraped at best, which is bad news for Pinellas Co. I don't see Dennis getting far enough West to leave us unaffected, and my gut says he's going to be farther East than expected currently.

With a good size storm like Dennis riding up our coast, the surge would be concerning in Tampa Bay and along the coast. We're pulling our boats off the dock and stowing high and dry tomorrow just in case this turns ugly...

That what worries me, not a direct hit on the west coast of florida. But if Dennis rides slow up the coast even 100 miles to the west.

I don't think the Tampa buildings can take a Cat 3 winds. It's all glass. I see huge flooding concerns..

I used to work down town Tampa in the Suntrust building ( the tallest down town ). I not for sure but I think they closed the building at 45 or 65 sustained winds.

That unfortunately is starting to move more into the realm of possibilities with current progs that the ridge will actually begin to shift East within the next 36 hours or so even though there is some building to the W and SW currently. This morning is the first I have seen this possibile eastward shift mentioned. Even late last night no one was mentioning this possibility, but NHC mentioned it in their discussion or one of the pro mets I deal with did(can't remember which). As I stated elsewhere, THE ENTIRE GULF COAST NEEDS TO BE CLOSELY MONITORING DENNIS. NO ONE should relax their vigilance at all!!!! And EVERYONE SHOULD BE PREPARED!!!
