Tropical Storm Dennis formed late Tuesday near the Windward Islands, becoming the first tropical threat to the Florida peninsula so far this year.
Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said on Tuesday the storm would likely become the first hurricane of the 2005 season. It is the fourth named storm, a record number of named storms so early in the tropical storm season.
While the official forecast has the entire peninsula of Florida under a warning for a direct strike, meteorologist Eric Blake said computer models are showing the storm will remain in the Gulf of Mexico thanks to a strong high pressure system over the Bahamas.

Still, that high pressure system could weaken and bring the storm across Florida toward the Treasure Coast. With intensification of Dennis likely, residents could feel increased winds and cloudy conditions by the end of the week.

That statement sounds a little misleading to me. It makes me think there is a warning when there isn't.
Yes, that's a case of bad reporting. Anyone assigned to report on this issue ought to know that "warning" means something specific in the case of tropical systems.

I can't believe they are even mentioning the Treasure Coast. Is this really true, that the high pressure could weaken that much? At least I can say we are prepared...unfortunately we have gotten tons of rain lately though and the ground is already saturated.
No chance of him heading out into the Atlantic eh? LOL
