It could be really fun!

The TWD could read something like:

TROPICAL STORM CHICKEN IS BEING ABSORBED BY MAJOR HURRICANE EAGLE OVER THE ATLANTIC. MEANWHILE, HURRICANE DOG APPEARS
TO BE CHASING ITS TAIL IN THE GULF OF MEXICO.

I actually used them once

#15 Postby jimvb » Thu Jun 30, 2005 10:33 pm

A long time ago, back in the 1980s, I actually named ordinary low pressure systems after animals, calling them Ant, Bear, Cat, ..., and including Xanthusma and Quagga. Then I named them after musical instruments, as Autoharp, Bassoon, Clarinet, and so forth. I named them after dogs (Airedale, Beagle, ...), cars (Auto, Bus, Cab, Dune Buggy...), ships (Ark, Barge, ...), fish (Albacore, Barracuda, ...) and when I ran out of names, I added colors (White Ant, Red Bear, Orange Cat, ...).

I also named highs after birds, calling them Auk, Bobwhite, Cardinal, ... and including Quetzel and Xema, and then flowers (Azalea, Buttercup, ...), giants (Atlas, Brobdingnagian, Cyclops, ...), and materials (Acetate, Batik, Canvas, ...), and used colors with them too.

If a storm gave us too much rainy weather or threatened us with snow, I used malevolent names, such as Atrocity, Beelzebub, Calamity, ... After a while I thought this was too much work and so I abandoned it all around 1992. But I still use the malevolent names for snowstorms, with the latest being Yuk, which I changed to Yuck after the local newspaper called it that.

Home of the NHC! But, I prefer to root for the more popular Panthers, the ones that won the 2003 NFC Championship. :D Image

General animal hurricanes names would be alright I guess: But I would hate it if they started naming Hurricanes after feroicious beasts: I think Ferocious beast names should be reserved for Cat 5 storms... A Cat 5 gets one of the following:

Jaws
Cujo
Godzilla
Leo the Lion
King Kong
etc...

What if we get two monster storms out there simutanously almost like they are doing battle with each other would it be:

Freddie vs Jason?

That brings up another topic for naming hurricanes.... Monster names

Freddie Kreuger
Jason
Frankenstein
Dracula
Chuckie
etc...
