Just showed the Pensacola area right in the center of the cone. He says to expect tropical storm force conditions Saturday night.

Not only that... but Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne all made landfall in the middle of the night.Frances and Jeanne on Late Saturday/Early Sunday
Yeah, I noticed that. It seems that all the real noise-makers that come this way get here at night....Frederic, Georges, Ivan, even Camille. That might be a good thing. I don't know how I'd react to seeing all my trees snap.

Our local (WKRG--Mobile, AL) news reported that Mobile County is planning to man the Emergency Operations Center this weekend. Also, Dr. Bill Williams of the Coastal Weather Research Center was on and said that he thought it COULD affect us on the Northern Gulf this weekend, but it is still too early to know for sure. The proverbial "wait and see." That kind of goes without saying right now, doesn't it?

Pensacola Beach
I just came from Pensacola Beach and I don't believe they can even handle a tropical storm at the moment or perdido key for that matter. Drove over to orange beach this past Saturday and I must say Alabama has done a much better job of cleaning up the piles of debris than Escambia county Florida.

Hey man!
I just came from Perdido Key myself. I rode through Gulf Shores... Orange Beach.... wow. The amount of damage is just amazing, BUT cross the state line and there is nothing but trash lined up on the roads in Florida. We actually spoke to over 20 different people about Ivan while we were there and we found out that FEMA stopped in the aid of clearing the trash in Florida. I wish I had a picture. Alabama is cleaned up and FLorida has piles and piles of concrete and trash. Escambia county looks like a war zone.
And they don't need any rain.... Tropical Storm or anything in that area. They need help.

Ok, what did you all do in Pensacola to make Mother Nature so mad at you? Although I really dont want any tropical system I wouldnt mind taking this punch for you panhandlers!!! My thoughts are with you all in AL/FL as you brace for another blow. Hopefully, if the track doesnt change by this weekend all it will be is a T.S. There seems to be enough dry air to keep this system from blowing up and developing rapidly, I will keep my fingers crossed and hope mother nature doesnt throw any curve balls.....

Yes, crazycajuncane, we've been hearing about that. The head of Alabama's emergency management agency (or one of those agencies involved with clean-up) worked for the feds at one time and knew all the hurdles for FEMA. Therefore, Alabama cities and counties were told when and how to apply for FEMA clean-up funds. According to what we've heard on the news, the Florida cities and counties were not aware of those FEMA regulations and, therefore, didn't receive the assistance. Not a good situation.
