How many hurricanes TOTAL have you experienced..
and by experienced.. I mean direct hits.. as in.. the storm was still a hurricane when it reached your area.. even if you're well inland..
I of course have an infamous 4..
Erin, Charley, Frances and Jeanne..
This is my opinion on the 4:
Erin: Very scary because she was my 1st one.. as I matured and remembered.. she really wasn't all that bad..
Charley: SCARED ME TO DEATH.. but so many awesome images in my mind from the storm.
Frances: Nothing more than a rainmaker..
Jeanne: THANK GOD FOR CHARLEY lol.. I say this.. because if not for Charley.. I think Jeanne would have been A LOT WORSE here..

Well, lots of tropical storms for me, including one in my sailboat (and that was one incredibly scary experience), but only one hurricane. Of course that was a real nasty one - Andrew. I rode him out in my parent's house in South Miami (they were out of town). That's a mile west of the old hurricane center, and according to the wind analysis I've seen that neighborhood saw strong cat-3 conditions. All I can say is it was unbelievably intense.

I'll play...
1) Allen in 1980
2) Alicia in 1983
3) Jaun and Danny in 1985 (not full force for either)
4) Bonnie in 1986
5) Florence, Gilbert in 1988 (chased)
5) Chantal and Jerry in 1989 (chased)
6) Brett in 1999 (chased)
7) Claudette in 2003
Honorable Mention...Tropical Storm Allison in 2001...in Houston Texas. Wow. Most awesome of all of them.

The worst I have ever experienced was just last year when hurricane force gusts from Ivan affected my area. I used to think that I would like to experience the full force of a major hurricane but after last year's brush, no way, Jose!
(A tropical storm with some heavy thunderstorms would be excitement enough for me, thank you very much.)

Only 1 hurricane. Hurricane Andrew. He was not a direct hit. But, we were only 25 miles east of the eyewall. And we still had winds in excess of 100 mph. All the others like Betsy, I was not born; yet.
Plenty of Tropical Storms. Bill, Isidore, plenty of flooding from Allison. Nearly missed Lili. She hit 70 miles to the west. We still got at least Tropical Storm force winds. I know we had other Tropical Storms hits, but just don't remember.

Opal and Ivan.
Ivan passed about 100-150 miles to the west but was still a minimal hurricane when it passed.
Opal was much worse though... was very close to the eastern eyewall and it was in the middle of the night(Ivan was the middle of the day).
I've experienced remnants of Andrew(1992), Danny(1997), Georges(1998)(actually got rainbands from it while it was down along the MS coast), Allison in 2001(passed just south of me many days after it hit Texas), Hanna(2002), Bill(2003), Frances(2004)(Center went very close to me but it was down to just a depression by then), had some gusty winds early in the morning and had no power for about 2 hours and Jeanne(2004), center went to my east but I was in the rain mass from it for several hours. Wind was gusty but nowhere near Frances or Ivan.
There may be others... those are just the ones I know off the top of my head.
Edited to add:
Isidore(2002) and Lili(2002). Isidore was just a massive rainmaker. The center was over 250 miles to the west but the storm was HUGE. The Yucatan tore out the inner core so it basically just split open. Lili was just one or two rainbands after the center had passed to the northwest(same distance as Isidore), but it was MUCH smaller.

Hurricane Allen is WHY I am a meteorologist. It turned me to the dark side of the force...watching shingles blow off my house and all. My interest in meteorology got peaked in '79 when I was in Alvin when Claudette came through...I just happened to be staying with my cousins who still live there. We got 40 inches of rain in 24 hours. We thought we caused it because it actually stopped raining that afternoon...and we went out and did a rain dance. We woke up at 3 the next morning to 6 inches of water in their house.
Ooops.

I'm not sure what sparked my interest... I know my addiction to hurricanes was when Opal came through. But my parents say I watched Andrew news coverage and pointed at the screen(I was only 4 at the time

Only Isabelle hit my area, Gloria from the early 80s was real close. I was only about 5 for Gloria, but she got me interested. Plus TS conditions probaly every other year. Floyd may not have been a cane by the time he afected SE VA, but 15 to 30 inches of rain will cause bad damage about anywhere.

I'll try, but I seriously can not remember all I have dealt with.
Hurricane force winds minimum experienced.
Flossy-1958
Alma-1966
Camille-1969
Alicia-1983
Others that I am not sure of the effects.
There were some in the 1970's but I was much less itnerested in TC's at that time.
Juan and Danny in 1985 (not full force for either)
Chantal and Jerry in 1989
Claudette in 2003
Tropical Storm Allison in 2001...
If I had a good list of Hurricanes/ Storms that have affected the N Gulf Coast between Corpus Christi and Appalachicola since 1953 I could compile a good list of what Ihave experienced.

RE:
Four, or Five (depending how you look at it):
1. Bob. TS up here. Alot of rain and wind. Fallen trees, lost several pieces of roofs in my neighborhood, and some flooding.
2. Andrew. Was vacationing with family in south Florida at the time. Totally horrific. I was shocked by this storm's power, and aftermath. A month I would not want to relive.
3. Bertha. minimum TS up here. No real damage. Did KO the power for several hours, and woke me up at 3:00 am with howling winds and heavy rain.
4. Floyd. Technically extratropical. Some flooding, and KO the power for a couple of hours.
5. Hybrid Storm of November 2001 (inspiration for my username). A extratropical low absorbed TS Noel and Hurricane Michelle. Subtropical storm had a low central pressure of 958 mb, sustained winds to 50 mph and peak gust to 80 mph in my area. KO power for the whole day of the 8th, knocked over quite a few trees, damaged several roofs, and blew off several stat. Dishes and antennas.
