Retired Southern Hemisphere Cyclones

#1 Postby HurricaneBill » Tue May 24, 2005 2:32 pm

I finally came across a list of Australian and Southern Pacific cyclones that have been retired.

It was divided up by basins.

I did a bit of research on each storm and corrected the year of retirement. (Some storms had years in which the name wasn't even used.)

Anyway, the SPAC has had the most storms retired. Probably because in the SPAC, it's very difficult for a storm to be a fish. With all those islands, somebody's gonna get hit.

I'll add in Saffir-Simpson scale categories for peak intensity. Mainly, they are by JTWC standards. However, some storms may have been underestimated. (Weather.unisys has Tracy listed as a Category 1!)

If another forcast center had a higher strength for the storm, I went with it.

I'll also list fatalities with the storms.

The SPAC list of retirees is HUGE. Like I said earlier, it's difficult for a cyclone to move through the SPAC without affecting some islands.

The season the cyclone occured in is listed.

And just think, if Rick Sanotorum has his way, you will have to trust UNISYS, ACCUWEATHER, et al, without exception.

Very significant that one. Who will ever forget the unprecedented flooding to the Brisbane area
