Here is a quote from the NWS JAX...

APPROACHING SURFACE FRONT
WILL INCREASE WSWLY WINDS TO 15-20 MPH IN MANY LOCATIONS AND PUSH
HEATING ALL THE WAY TO THE BEACHES WITH MANY AREAS SEEING HIGHS
AROUND 90 DEGREES...WHICH WOULD BE THE 1ST TIME THIS YEAR AT JAX
AIRPORT.

SIDE NOTE...SINCE 1948 ONLY 4 YEARS HAVE SEEN LATER DATES TO REACH
90 DEGREES AT THE JAX INTL AIRPORT...

1966...JUNE 14TH
1979...JUNE 3RD
1992...MAY 24TH
1975...MAY 23RD

Hurricane activity these years...

1966--11NS/7H/3MH...Category 3 Alma hugged the west coast of Fla and came ashore in the appalachee bay, Category 4 hurricane Inez toured the Greater Antilles and crossed extreme s fla/keys as a category 1 then crossed the gulf and hit Old Mexico http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... index.html

1975-- 9NS/6H/3MH... Category 3 hurricane Eloise hits just west of Panama City, Fla, Hurricane Caroline hits just south of Brownsville Tx. http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... index.html

1979-- 9NS/5H/2MH... Category 1 Bob Strikes just west of New Orleans, Tropical Storm Claudette hits the Houston tx area, Category 5 hurricane David wreaks havoc on the islands then scrapes the east coast of fla as a category 2 and comes ashore near savannah, Ga, Tropical storm Elena hits just west of Houston, tx, Category 4 hurricane Frederick slams the Mobile, Al area
http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... index.html

1992-7NS/4H/1MH It only took one...ANDREW and a tropical storm Danielle affected the mid Atlantic. http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atl ... index.html

Looks like cool mays in Jax in the past have meant landfalling storms---we will see...Comments welcome

It is interesting to note that the whole Southeast has had an unseasonably cool Spring this year. Is this just a mere coincidence or will it have an impact on this years' hurricane season? I would like to hear the opinions of anyone who is better versed on this topic then I'am. Along the Central Gulf Coast we had a mild winter but a cool spring and unusually dry.

here in south florida the westerlies try hard but the east coast seabreeze always wins out. Hence South Florida along the beaches are not getting above the low to mid 80s...

As far as this cool southeast theory....I don't see any relationship to hurricane season at all....the only thing that I can say is that maybe we will see more "troughiness" this year which would favor GOM or Caribbean storms but that is it...I don't think we should make a correlation to hurricane season.

And after record lows a few weeks ago in Southeast Texas, we had record highs Saturday and Sunday, and possible again tomorrow. It was 100° here today! We're setting 100 year old records.

A couple of weeks ago, I was wearing a jacket in the morning and at night with unseasonably cold weather. What a quick change!

It's been a different year here - we actually had a spring season with
nice temps. It's also been very dry this month - no measureable rain.
I don't know that there's any correlation to be had here, I've got to
compare May 2005 data with the last few years and see.

100 degrees out here too yesterday. Today seems to be heating up to be another scorcher. Local met mentioned the possibility of this high breaking down a bit by late in the week - giving way to the possibility of some popcorn showers. Fingers crossed!!
