Worldwide Tropical Update: 07 March 2005

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Mar 06, 2005 10:50 pm

The Storm2K Worldwide Tropical Update for 07 March 2005 at 00Z.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Ingrid (08U/91P) (07/00Z)
Position: 14.1S 148.8E (355 mi SSE of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea)
Movement: Stationary
Winds: 105 mph
Pressure: 965 mb / 28.50"
Dvorak Est: T5.0/5.0

Ingrid has quickly intensified into a powerful cyclone between Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Further intensification is expected as this system sits quasi-stationary. However, model guidance suggests that in a few days this system can pose a threat to the northeastern coast of Queensland and will have to be monitored..

Currently, the S2K Worldwide Tropical Update’s Alert Page has been activated for TC Ingrid. You can get up-to-date information on Ingrid such as observations, webcams, tracking charts, satellite, etc. from the alert page. Of course, if you have any ideas of additional data that you'd like to see on the alert page, please pass them along to me. Thanks!

The Storm2K Worldwide Tropical Update for 07 March 2005 at 06Z.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Ingrid (08U/22P) (07/06Z)

Movement: WSW at 5 mph
Winds: 125 mph

Ingrid has continued to intensified as it drifts toward the Queensland coast. At post time, BoM has issued tropical cyclone watch from Port Douglas to Lockhart River. Further development is expected. Official forecasts have Ingrid reaching category five strength on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. This will definitely be of concern for those in the cyclone watch area.

Thanks for the update, senorpepr...what are you thinking? I'm going to guess 140MPH at landfall...right in the middle of the range.

Still hard for me to look at clockwise spinning cyclones...

I'm thinking anywhere between 140 and 150, depending on it's forward speed between now and landfall. Luckily it appears as if Ingrid will strike a fairly unpopulated region of Queensland.
