I posted this in a different forum but no one is in there to see my thread. :( I have decided to go shopping for a weather radio since I can't seem to get enough weather and don't know the first thing about them. I need some suggestions. I don't want to spend a fortune, a hand held would do. Where should I look? Any specific features I should look for? Any brands better than others? All suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Radio Shack usually carries an inexpensive one.

Don't know price, but probablly under $20.

radio shack..get one that allows you to program SAME codes so you only get the alerts for your county.

I'd check it out at the store before you purchase it. Many of these cheap radios don't work after you get them home. Sometimes they're set to the wrong frequency and sometimes they just don't have the signal amplification required for a weaker signal.

The NOAA has information on weather radios at:

http://www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr/nwrrcvr.htm

I had a Midland WR-30 ($20?) for a couple of years, then it just stopped receiving alerts, and I can't seem to reprogram it. Radio still works, though.

This year I bought a Midland WR-300 (about $90) and am very happy with it.
