Ivan could top Andrew in damages if it hits Mobile as Cat 4

#1 Postby logybogy » Tue Sep 14, 2004 4:42 am

The Mobile area population is about 500,000 and this just includes the two coastal counties in Alabama. A couple hundred thousand people live just east across the FL border.

With Ivan's large wind field, a population area of 750,000 people could experience Cat 3/4 winds.

The damage would be extreme.

For reference, South Dade where Andrew hit only had a population of about 200,000 in 1992.
