The Bottom Line for Shear

#1 Postby Fodie77 » Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:10 pm

First off, I would like to thank all of you guys for such an AMAZING board. Second, being the newbie that I am I hope this doesn't appear to be a dumb question. On every NHC discussion I've seen the last couple of days, they always speak of stronger shear over the GOM, however they don't seem to give an indication of how much of an impact it will make. Does anyone here have any estimates as to how strong the shear will be over the GOM and how much Ivan could potentially weaken before making landfall somewhere on the US gulf coast?

Actually, they do give an indication of the severity of the shear by weakening Ivan to category 3 hurricane in the Gulf. What they have not given is an explanation regarding where the shear will be coming from.
