Question for Derek re: shear

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Question for Derek re: shear

#1 Postby wjs3 » Fri Sep 10, 2004 9:59 am

Derek:

Yesterday you pointed out that the shear many of the models were seeing was an artifact of their dependence on the GFS. GFS had the storm in the wrong place, with its own ridge, and other models, in different locations with the storm, were seeing that as shear--when in fact they had their own ridges over the storm.

What's the situation today? Is the shear being called for in the 11 AM NHC Discussion the same kind of artifact of models? Or is this shear more likely to materialize?

Thanks--appreciate all your work!
