We have begun preparing street level maps. Will add enhanced wind fields after Ivan crosses Cuba.

I like the map but NOT the direction. We are going to be in trouble.

Skeeto,

Any chance you can pick a track and stick with it? You have every scenario possible.

Very interesting and a great concept, but IMHO, a bit premature for this storm.

Map data

#6 Postby SkeetoBite » Fri Sep 10, 2004 7:28 am

All maps are based on the most recent NHC advisory. As the forecast coordinates change, the maps are updated.

Skeetobite.com provides these free maps as a street level interpretation of NHC coordinates in a fashion that anyone can readily understand.

In short, it's not our data! Just our maps!

These maps are great and the only way for this newbie to know what's what.

Good work Skeetobite... is there a way I can learn to do that for my area? Or do you think your site will someday allow people to plug in their zip codes? I like it!

Skeetobite....these are really cool maps. I like the way you show the wind diameter as well as center forecast track. It's really easy to focus on just the center line - this helps keep impact in perspective.

These are great maps, thank you.

Other than the fact that this storm is literally making landfall in my back yard. But that's not your fault!

I belong to a British based travel forum, and I've been linking them to your maps since before Frances. Many of them love to travel to Fl. so, visually, your maps have been the most useful link I've sent them. And they appreciate being able to understand it better.

Come on people, no one knows for sure where this storm is making landfall. Any projection now is purely conjecture. Every single projection out there has a disclaimer that anything past 72 hours is subject to large errors. Look at where the NHC (example only, not picking on them) has had the track in the last couple of days. It's flopped back and forth and could possibly continue to do so until Ivan gets closer to Cuba.

Like I said, not knocking the concept of what you have here. You might want to add a disclaimer.

Again, not our own "guess-casting" as found elsewhere on this forum and others.

This is just another graphic depiction of the NHC coordinates and statistics for the current storm. If you have unlimited long distance, you can call the 2,000,000+ people in the Tampa Bay area and ask them if they want a street level map of the forecast provided by the best experts in America, or if they would rather be blind to the current track as you suggest.

Thanks Skeetobite! I understand this isn't your prediction. It's mighty handy to have a visual of the NHC track, and as I scan down your page I notice you update regularly. Know that must be a lot of work-you provide a great service to tropical weather watchers.

Excellent maps. This will help me to convince some of my friends who are not very weather intelligent what to expect and how we stand actually with the storm and what to expect. Most people don't seem to realize how small the state of FL is across the middle and how a storm hitting on the west coast can actually affect them on east or in particular in NE FL

Terrific service!! Thank you. All must keep in mind that this is not your data but from the NHC put into simple terms that all of us can understand.

Don't like what it's saying but no one has control over that.
Thanks again,

Lynn

Great job with the maps SkeetoBite. Your services are appreciated..

For Alicia-W - Just a side note. Oneach of his maps they say

Based on the NHC 09/09/04 at 5am so i believe he has the disclaimer covered... :D
