Was Charley a non-North Carolina event? How about Bonnie? Or Gaston?
Just because something isn't going to make a direct landfall hit does NOT mean that it cannot cause massive damage later as it moves up the coast - which is very possible with this Hurricane. Considering its projected strength at landfall (wherever that is), I think the entire East Coast should be prepared for major weather.
AND, never think it won't come where you are regardless. Hurricanes are crazy things. You never know where they may land - regardless of where all the predictions or models take them. Frances making a direct strike on NC is highly improbable at this point - but you just never know...

George used to be real good at predicting the weather, but lately, (the past 6-8 months), I think he's kind of lost it with regarding to knowing whats going to happen. As for hurricanes, not that anyone is perfect, but I don't recall him ever being on track until the weather system is right on top of us. Kinda like when it's thundering and lightning and raining like crazy, then it quits and the NWS issues a Severe Thunderstorm Warning. Too little too late.

As I watch this monster, I can't help but remember how Floyd skirted up the coast. Although I don't think that will happen I am not quite ready yet to let my guard down, and am keeping a close eye on the hurricane. This is not -removed- as I have no desire to see any heading this way, and although I do believe it will go further south, I am wise enough to know that mother nature tends to sometimes surprise us and do its own thing.
I truely feel for all the people in Florida. You have been dealing with the aftermaths of Charlie and having to sit and watch another powerful one heading straight for you all has got to be creating huge amount of stress. All I can do now is pray that where ever she goes, she will loose some of her strenght before landfall and spare those in her path, but until she does all should keep an eye on her.
