Most Major Hurricanes Prior to September (1950-Present)

#1 Postby donsutherland1 » Tue Aug 31, 2004 10:30 am

1950........4
1951........3
1958........3
1969........3
1996........3
2004........3

Note: Date is based on formation of the storms that became major hurricanes.

Major Hurricanes for those Years after August 31:

1950........4
1951........2
1958........2
1969........2
1996........3
2004........?

Based on this experience, it appears highly likely that 2004 will see at least two more major hurricanes develop. Needless to say, this does not necessarily mean that such hurricanes would make U.S. landfall.
