So, has anyone seen if NOAA or the Navy has images of the SST's
at the time of landfall for Charley? <p>
There's been a lot of research done ofer the years, trying to understand the rapid strengthening process. I'm a believer that when a cyclone passes over a warm water eddy, it's a mega adrenaline shot. <p>
Take Opal for example - go to bed, cat 2, wake up cat 4, almost 5.
Opal did weaken a bit before landfall. Later I saw that Opal had passed over an eddy. So my thought is maybe Charley did the same, but didn't have time to wind down any due to its proximity to land.
