Sounds like a lot of flooding for NE Florida and SE Georgia.

That's a really informative and well written forecast. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the panhandle.

Over the last 30 hours I've already picked up nearly 4" from that decaying front. What worries me is how all the trees are soaked through and heavy with rain. Hurricane force gusts coming through these forests could prove damaging...especially since we haven't had a real wind event since 1998. A lot of tree growth/rot has occurred since that time.

Great point I remember Hurricane Kate tallahassee was without lights for amost two weeks. One problem we have here is that trees causes the most damage with poweroutages.

Exactly. Remember, winds from Kate only reached 46 mph sustained, gusts to 68 mph at the Tallahassee airport, and look what it did.......

We had too many storms in the 90s threaten and not do much damage. Of course, this shouldn't do damage anywhere near Kate (Kate made landfall as a category 2). Still, people shouldn't be out and about tomorrow morning, especially not in a morning commute downtown when hurricane force gusts are expected at the same time.

Of course, this (from Tallahassee's government website) makes no sense to me:

**As of now, TalTran bus service, City solid waste and recycling collection services, and the Tallahassee Regional Airport will operate as normal tomorrow.**

I think they'll monitor it over the night, and if it stays on course with track and intensity, they'll issue the order to close down everything in the morning. In the past, the thing we used to do is check 6 a.m. news (WCTV's morning show runs at that time), and they'll have the latest closings info.

Also, http://www.talgov.com is another good site.

No, I'm not an FSU Met. Grad, but I used to conduct research at Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Studies/FSU.

Times have changed. In the 90s they used to shut down everything immediately when a hurricane warning was issued, bar none. While that may have been extreme, let's hope they don't err too far in the other direction.

To keep track of FSU's open/close status, use this link:

http://www.fsu.edu/~alerts/

Maybe they should take a hint from Keiser College, which just announced that they will be closed tomorrow.

Hello neighbors...

Just wanted to say hello to my fellow Tallahasseans.

Mike McCall here. Been a busy day, eh?

I haven't been able to look at this board too much today :?: , but enjoy perusing the posts. It's a great site.

Tomorrow should be even better. We'll have Rob at the coast at Apalachicola. Our new guy - Brian will be here at the station in the morning as a backup, and I'll be back by afternoon (as things start to calm down a bit - hopefully :) - especially since I'm supposed to be on vacation tomorrow and Friday!
I'm still a bit concerned that Bonnie may make landfall closer to Apalachicola, increasing the storm surge in the bay, and perhaps causing more wind damge inland. Like TallyWx said - Kate is the benchmark here, and its sustained winds weren't even that of a strong tropical storm by the time it went through Tally. Hopefully, the shear will start ripping it apart a little before landfall and make things better for us. A nice challenge, for sure.

TallyWx, you do know your stuff. I had O'Brian as a prof in dynamics about 20 years ago (yikes). He's a brilliant guy - a bit ummm..... "difficult" at times, but still a good guy and a credit to the FSU Met dept. Sigh. Guess I've "played" long enough. Back to work for me.

Hope all of you other Tallahasseans stay safe tomorrow.

Mike

Good to see you on board Mike, and thanks for the input. Hope this gets over soon so you and your family can take that vacation.
