3:00 PM EDT Storm2k Atlantic Tropical Update,August 5

#1 Postby cycloneye » Thu Aug 05, 2004 1:48 pm

Hurricane Alex has begun to weaken rapidly as it has reached cooler waters and because of that the cloud tops are warming and the eye is turning much more raggad. This system will become extratropical in the next 24-48 hours as it merges with an north atlantic low.

A tropical Wave the former TD#2 is moving west in the central caribbean sea.Convection has increased with the wave however no surface low is evident in the area but some little weak vortices are scattered around the whole area. There is a chance that this system gat more favorable conditions as the shear now blowing thru it subsides as an upper low near Jamaica moves west in tandem with the wave. All interests in the central and western caribbean should monitor this system closely.

A tropical wave with a weak low pressure of 1015 mbs is moving westward at around 15 mph. This afternoon it has becomed better organized and if organization continues a tropical depression may form. But it wil have to contend with SW shear and dry air in the area.

The storm2k forecast team will be watching these areas and if any changes occur we will post more information as it is available.
