Hey guys,

No expert here, I'm starting to get that feeling that things

All the elements are coming together for a very active season.

Yep, I would expect something to pop within the next week or so. Seems like I was wrong on my prediction about 97L eventually becoming a TS, though.

Lid coming off

#4 Postby hurricanetrack » Thu Jul 22, 2004 10:13 pm

I keep reading about lower than normal shear and lower than normal pressures in the East Atlantic- it's all going to start adding up sooner or later. Plus- the moisture content will go up as well and we will finally be able to say goodbye to the strong SAL in a few more weeks. It just takes time in our Basin and that time is about to come once again.

We gotta get on the board, c'mon Atlantic! The E-pac is whoppin us!

Once again, it looks like NC will have another close call, but no cigar. If that wave NE of the Bahamas does form, it'll prolly get knocked back out to sea by the cold front that is in the mid-U.S. right now :-( Oh well, the season is still young :-)

Hmm.....never mind if Florida is gonna get a hurricane this year! Is North Carolina gonna get one?

NC seems to be the target lately.

Look:

1993 Hurricane Emily (Category 3 landfall)
1994 Hurricane Gordon (offshore Category 1)
1995 Hurricane Felix (offshore Category 1)
1996 Hurricane Bertha (Category 2 landfall)
1996 Hurricane Fran (Category 3 landfall)
1998 Hurricane Bonnie (Category 2 landfall)
1999 Hurricane Dennis (offshore Category 2)
1999 Hurricane Floyd (Category 2 landfall)
1999 Hurricane Irene (offshore Category 2)
2003 Hurricane Isabel (Category 2 landfall)

While I really couldn't care less, a lot of people around here get all touchy when people wish hurricanes to landfall. Best to keep such comments to yourself.

Your post in the "Why Are We Here?" thread didn't sound quite like that: :)

bahamaswx wrote:I've always been interested by hurricanes. When I was younger I guess it was just the thrill of being in one, but these days I'm more interested by the dynamics, the power and just the overall beauty of a hurricane.

I voted "I just like tracking hurricanes, I don't care where they go." But don't get me wrong, I love hurricanes and am always hoping to experience another. :)

Reread my post ;) I said I really couldn't care less if he wishes a hurricane upon himself.... just that others seem kind of touchy about it. :)

I know what you said and you said it again. :D

Generally, weather enthusiasts like to experience interesting weather without the death and destruction that goes along with it, sometimes.

But that's not quite what he said :) Generally, I've always seen people get kind of touchy when someone 'wishes' a CAT5 upon their area.

Well I wouldnt mind a tropical cyclone just coming out of the Gulf or from the Savanha area of Georgia and just coming and sitting on the Atlanta/Athens area for a few days. Just for the fact that it would be much needed rain. We have huge deficits here with atlanta being - 9 inches and athens being -13 inches below normal this year on rain fall. We desperatley need it.

Touchy and concerned and touchy that we want to experience a tropical system are two different things, too.

Come on, you know what I mean. This is kind of redundant.

Right, I know what you mean... so it shouldn't be a redundancy. I responded to what you mentioned and you responded back.

I would like to see something like Isabel again, but come a little farther north and hit us directly, instead of NC... stupid NC Outer Banks takes away all our fun!  :D
