What's up with the blue dot?

Look at the OTIS shot:

Notice the blue "hole" in the Pacific just west of 180 and right on the equator. Maybe it's a 13 degree drop in SST that spells the beginning of a new ice age. Sorry- had to throw that in. I do wonder though what would cause a round area of much below normal SSTs. Strange.

Upwelling caused by a typhoon in the area?? I haven't followed the Pacific closely so I am just speculating.

1) Upwelling caused by a typhoon
2) Bad/Missing Data ...

I go with #2 because typhoon Conson is well away from where that dot is.

A strange one indeed. Also note the very warm SST's for this time around Alaska and the North Atlantic, Ice caps melting? :eek:

While these cool spots are kinda strange, they really aren't all that uncommon if you monitor the OTIS site daily. We get a couple spots like this every couple months and they usually fade away slowly.
