Right now Typhoon Nida is a minimal Typhoon with winds reaching 90mph. By tomorrow she will have strengthened to a Category 3 and be very very close to the northern island of the Philippines, there in two days a trough will swing out and grab her, turning her sharply NE, just a few miles from the coast of The Philippines. She is moving rather slowly mind you..only 6mph to the WNW. By this time she will speed up, and head towards the eastern coast of Japan, sideswiping it as a weak Category 1 storm, it will weaken once the trough grabs her. It may be to far north for affects to reach Tokyo but there is always a possibility that something may happen. I wouldnt be surprised if some kind of watch/warning went of out the northern coast of The Philippines since Nida will be less than 60 miles from the coast when she turns, and as a Category 3 to boot. Here are the coordinates:
As of 3:00 A.M. Eastern time, Saturday May 15th, 2004
Position: 9.6N, 129.9E
Winds: 90mph with gusts to 115mph
Movement: WNW at 6mph
All computer models point to a Landfall on the tip of the Northern Island of the Philippines in 48 hours, as a strong Category 3 Typhoon. I wouldnt be surprised if The Philippines felt the affects of the storm by tomorrow night. Hopefully no landfall will occur but anything can happen at this time. More info will be posted later.
Typhoon Nida edges towards Philippines, Will brush Tokyo

New Coordinates
As of 6:00 P.M. Eastern Time, Saturday May 15th, 2004
Position: 10.6N 127.8E
Winds: 115mph with gusts to 145mph ( Strengthening to over 150mph is likely)
Movement: NW at 9mph
Strengthening is possible in the next few hours making Typhoon Nida a Category 4 Typhoon. Landfall in the southern, small islands of The Philippines is also possible at this time. The City of Cebu could fell affects of storm in the next 24 hours. Tropical Storm force winds will be felt with a possibility of some Hurricane Force as well, most of the strong winds will be to the east of the eye, out to sea. Once Nida clears The Philippines she will head NE and speed up, just barely missing Japan as a weak Tropical Storm.
