Late Aug 1949 A Cat 4 Hurricane Hits West
Palm Beach. Drives 100 MPH Winds All The Way
To Tampa Anyone Remember This? I Was A Year Old
At The Time. Is This The Storm That Took The Water Out Of
Tampa Bay For Six Hours?Anyone?

It looks like the 1949 storm you mention made landfall in Palm beach as a Cat 3 then cut across Florida missing Tampa Bay, but turning sharpley north around Pasco County. To me it doesn't look likely that it " Took The Water Out Of
Tampa Bay For Six Hours" sounds exagerated. But it does look like it maintained Cat 1 strength through Central Florida which is interesteing.

Also while looking for information on this storm, I found an incredible site for looking at Historical Hurricane Tracks. I was not aware of this site, but it is really detailed!
