Puerto Rico in a rain event

Nothing tropical here but there is a surface trough combining with another upper trough to the west of Puerto Rico and a jet stream over the island inducing heavy showers and thunderstorms. But hopefully nothing more than 2-6 inches fall here because beyond those totals we may be looking at flooding events.

A flash flood watch has been issued for all of Puerto Rico and the virgin islands until 4:00 AM tuesday. :darrow: :darrow: :darrow: :darrow: :darrow:

Really you are in a drought msbee over there?Well the good news is that the rainy season for the islands is comming in a couple of months when the parade of tropical waves will begin to cross the islands and bring the usual summer rains so I hope that the dry spell ends unless a drier than normal pattern sets shop in the summer months.

Check out the radar in 50 frames (if you have dial-up, click on the link and then go have a siesta):

Slow movers for sure....

It has been dry lately here in the Carolinas. We had a wet winter- and then all of a sudden, poof! went all the rain. Now we're under 1030MB high pressure. Lots of pollen though....yuck.

So far between 2-4 inches and isolated spots of 5 inches or more has fallen today in this rain event but no big flooding has happened. At this hour the coverage of the showers has diminuished however still there is an area of moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms south and southeast of Puerto Rico that we here are watching to see if it comes our way.

Watch out there cycloneye...Mudslides are a real concern there in heavy rains even though it seems to have settled down plenty there judging by the SAT.

It most likely will flare up again tomorrow until this moves away or dissipates.

This morning the eastern part of the island has got heavy rain with totals between 1-3 inches.Massive traffic jams haved been occuring in the metro area of San Juan due to ponds of water in many of the expressways and avenues.Today we expect more rain so let's see what areas get the more rain and if flooding occurs. The surface trough still is hanging on in the area and it is combining with a jet stream that is transporting moistere from South America.

Still today we expect rain with some thunderstorms however the upper clouds covering the sun will limit diurnal heating and that effect wont be bif today. The pescky upper trough continues to hang on in the caribbean and western atlantic and that is combining with a jet stream from South America to bring moistere to the island.By the way some may open their eyes at a blob in the caribbean but with a jet stream of 60-80kts upper winds in the area it is impossible for a blob of convection to persist and develop.
