Max Mayfield in San Juan=Be prepared no matter what

Active or not this upcomming season all the people who live in the caribbean islands, the US gulf coast, the east coast and the western caribbean including centralamerica must be prepared because it only takes one system to make all the damage in a location. That is part of a brief message from the NHC director here on San Juan,Puerto Rico as the C-130-J came to make a visit. Also Lixon Avila one of the NHC forecasters was here too and he said briefly that the 5 day forecast was a success last season and with that experience the NHC forecasters will be better forecasting 5 day tracks and Avila hopes that about the intensity forecasts they will do better this 2004 season.Around 7,000 people lined up to see the hurricane hunter and all the instruments it has.

Mark (Hurricanetrack) I did not take pictures because I dont have a digital camera and my friend who has one had to work today.

You said the correct word to describe what I saw today AWESOME !!. To say only one instrument the dropsonde that measures winds, barometric pressure, and movement of a system it is taken to a tube that goes down the plane and then they let it drop.

Luis:

Glad you had a good time. Those folks at the NHC are something else. One day, I plan to write a book about them all- and other stuff relating to the "hurricane business" too.

Anyhow- did you get to say hello to Max or was he at a safe distance from everyone? I asked him to be on the lookout for you and tell YOU hello on my behalf should you get to meet him.

I have interviewed him many times for hurricane awareness projects that my company has produced. Max is one of the rare breeds still out there who can balance good, down-to-earth conversation with an aire of seriousness that can send a chill down your spine. Hope he is NHC's top guy for many years to come.

No Mark he was well away from the line we were but Avila was more close to us and I saluted him only to say good morning.
