This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

East Atlantic... Interesting

#1 Postby Hurricanehink » Fri Mar 19, 2004 6:03 pm

What is up over there? I just looked at the animated loop there, and there is an upper low gaining convection. Interesting for March, and fun to look at. Though NRL Montery isn't working, you should be able to see this neat feature at any other site. It reminds me of Peter... and that's all I'm saying.

Yes, a sign of things to come for sure...like I've said in the past, this seems like it's going to be one HECK of an active tropical season.

SSTs are about 23C there (73F). Just a big upper low. More interesting is the active ITCZ around 5N.

I'd be perfectly happy if the "A" storm waited until late August. I'll be so busy travelling and putting on hurricane seminars in April/May/June that I won't have much time to prepare for the start of the season.

 I've been noticing the ITCZ for the past couple of days and it does seem a bit active for so early. I do believe there will be an early start to the season.

Convection has increased...and its looking a lot better organized. There is a chance for subtropical development or even tropical if it moves westward over warmer waters and holds together.

This will be very interesting if it does get to subtropical storm strength or better yet tropical storm strength! :o

Aww man! It now looks like it's dying. Still, it was fun while it lasted.

Well, Ana formed in SST's around the same temperature, and ironically the same conditions ... but this is just a teaser for us to get ready for the "primetime" ...

Anyways, let's analyze this sucker ... Notice at the 300mb level that the system is closed off and cold core ... and it begins to get shoved eastward with the approaching trough in the Central Atlantic ... and actually deepens a bit ...

500mb vorticity...

MSLP ... you'll notice the kink in the streamlines, but the wave itself along the SFC opens up and likely moves westward meanstwhile the upper support gets shunted back eastward ... without any significant SFC feature developing through the 48 hours ...

Anyways, I got bored ... something to warm up for the tropical season, eh?
