Long radar loop now up

#1 Postby hurricanetrack » Fri Mar 12, 2004 6:52 pm

Check out this sample 50 frame radar loop at our site:

http://www.hurricanetrack.com/animation ... o/bro.html

Make sure you have either broadband or a few minutes to load 50 GIF images. But- when they've loaded- you're in for a treat. Now, just imagine this when a hurricane is approaching.

We'll have 31 coastal radar sites done this way before June 1. I might add some pages for folks who do not have broadband Internet- say a 25 frame version. That is still better than the NWS 8 or 10 frame loop.

Enjoy. There's more to come.

Please have either the Lake Charles or New Orleans radar up for hurricane season too! This is really going to come in handy, thanks!

Other radars

Yes- I have 18 radar sites done now and will be working on making a nice web page to select which one you want to see. Lake Charles, New Orleans are all in there. Puerto Rico, too!

I also have a satellite loop of Africa (the East Atlantic shot) that will be 8 days long. NOAA adds another frame every 6 hours. I am grabbing those frames, uploading them to the site and archiving them 32 frames at a time. If there are 4 frames that make up a day, and I have 32 frames, I believe that makes 8 days of satellite photos. So now we can watch a tropical wave leave Africa and traverse the eastern Atlantic right before our eyes.

All of this will be ready well before the hurricane season.

Cool, the Africa shot should be good, but a shot every six hours seems a little too long of a time between shots. Still, the 8 day length is great.

THe Africa images (East Atlantic) are provided by NOAA every 6 hours. I am sure we ALL wish we could get those on a more frequent basis. Unfortunately, we're limited to 4 frames per day.

Aww, ok. Yea, if only we could watch all of the storms from the beginning :-?
