New model page for looping of GFS/ETA
Well- here it is. I finally have finished the models part of my new GFS & ETA loops page. I like the NCEP graphics for those models- but they do not have a loop of them. Now, we do at HurricaneTrack.com.
Every 6 hours, a UNIX machine will download from NCEP all of the images. It will then rename them and upload them to my server where the various HTML pages will allow them to be looped.
The GFS will goes out to 10 days. Beyond that time is simply fantasy-land. I use the SLP, 500mb and 200mb model runs since these are the one's we're most interested in.
The ETA shows all 84 hours of its runs. I choose to display the SLP and 500mb maps for the ETA.
It's cool because you can zoom in, of course, and use the arrow keys to scroll thru the images.
I will be adding radar and satellite loops to the page as well. These will be spectacular. I plan to have 30, 50 and even 80 frame loops as needed of radar and satellite photos. This will be awesome during the hurricane season. No more 8 frame short-lived loops. These will be really neat to see storm motion, etc. over a longer period of time.

I've got some tweaking to do, but what's there is almost fully operational. Test it out- let me know if all works ok. More will be added before June 1.

Some bugs to work out
The model loops are working well update-wise. The only problem is the re-naming issue and making sure that new images replace old ones. My programmer and I are hashing it all out.
Not to worry- it will be perfect by the time May 15th rolls around- which still leaves plenty of time before June 1.
Also- we will be working on long looped sat and radar soon. That is what makes me the most excited. We plan to have 31 coastal radar locations with 50 frame loops (base reflectivity). For satellite, I figure we'll do the GOES-12 hurricane sector (IR,VIS, WV) as well as other satellite shots that currently have short, 8-frame loops via the NWS. Wouldn't it be cool to have a 50 frame floater loop of the next hurricane? We're working on it.

Great all that is there at the link and it will be very vital in the hurricane season.

Been to the Villages several times. Good Wendy's there. Nice theater too- the Rialto, I believe it's called.

Visit to Villages
Yes- my in-laws used to live at Spruce Creek a few years ago. I would visit at least once a year. Now they live in SC.
