Tropical Update: 07 Mar

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Mar 07, 2004 2:12 pm

:rarrow: A) Ex-TC Evan (15P): At 07/1649Z...
Position near 19.0S 115.6E (190nm WNW of Port Hedland, Australia)
Maximum sustained winds are 30 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1002 mb

The remnants of Evan still haunt us with a poor chance at redevelopment.

:rarrow: B) TC Gafilo (16S): At 07/1600Z...
Position near 16.2S 46.7E (275nm NNE of Antananarivo, Madagascar)
Movement toward the W at 14 mph
Maximum sustained winds are 85 mph
Minimum central pressure is 967 mb
T# numbers: Overland

Gafilo has made landfall on Madagascar. Expect continued weakening as it interacts with land. This should persist throughout the entire forecast period.

:rarrow: C) Invest (97S): At 07/1600Z...
Position near 13.9S 89.2E (460nm WSW of Cocos Islands)
Maximum sustained winds are 15 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1006 mb

97S is under an area of good divergence, but moderate shear. There is a poor chance for 97S to develop.

A TCFA was just issued about an hour ago for the lingering storm centered near 14S and 88E.

Maybe this should be posted in the 08th trop update since it was posted at 03Z, but I think this will do for now...

QScats reveal 30 and 40 knots winds on the northern side and even some 25 and 30 knot westerlies beginning to become wrapped up in the system as well.

No... feel free to contribute whenever.

C) Invest (97S): At 08/0400Z...
Position near 13.4 90.7E (370nm W of Cocos Islands)
Maximum sustained winds are 25 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1004 mb

97S has strengthened throughout the day and the JTWC has issued the TCFA. JTWC has given 97S a good chance at development.
