Tropical Update: 18 Feb

#1 Postby senorpepr » Wed Feb 18, 2004 5:56 pm

Okay… I’m back from my trip. It was a nice trip away from all the snow here. At least it’s finally warming up here! Nonetheless, during my hiatus, Cyclone Fritz and Invest 98S both weakened. Also, 01W strengthen to 30 knots; maintaining depression status. Regardless, 01W has weakened and the JTWC has issued their final advisory. However, 01W is still an area of interest…

:rarrow: A) Remnants of Noname (01W): At 18/0600Z...
Position near 8.9N 133.4E (400nm E of Mindanao, Philippines)
Maximum sustained winds are 15-25 mph
Minimum central pressure is 1005 mb

Satellite imagery indicates 01W has a fully-exposed low-level circulation. Favorable diffluence is located in the SW quadrant of the upper-level ridge while moderate wind shear remains aloft. It should be noted, however, that this shear has decreased over the past 24 hours. The JTWC has downgraded the potential for redevelopment of the remnants of 01W to poor.

Good to see you back, though I doubt 1W will reform. Just 3 months left until some activity somewhere near us.
