One of my biggest off-season tasks is going to be developing a database to hold all model runs, TPC forecast data, my forecast data and lots more to do some serious analysis during the next 6 months.
I had a smaller version of the DB up and going but the crash of Sept 2003 took it out and I didn't have it backed up. Dooh!
Anyway...I'd like to develop an interface to the website so users can come in and look at historical model performance, and HOPEFULLY (BIG goal here) to look at model/forecast performance in quasi-real time as storms are active.
One of the offshoots of that thought is to create a verification database for other forecasts besides the TPC and my own. Most folks who create forecasts with lat/long points don't leave them up on their website...but I'd be happy to ingest and analyize/verify any forecasts from others who post forecasts and still have the data. Most interesting to me would be to see how an ensemble of independant forecasts would verify against individual forecasts and the TPC.
I can set up some file specs or deal with the data as the user has it...so if you're writing independant forecasts and you would like to use your data in an ensemble database, and get verification to boot...let me know here or drop me an email.
In any event, please post your thoughts and or suggestions...and I'll be working on the technical aspects over the next couple of weeks.
