Well the GOM is in the clear - Larry proved that. BTW I will be in Corpus Christi for 3 days next week for a convention for work - so no storms because I will have no computer access.

I love the Carol of the Bells lol.. but more importantly. There's still several weeks left. We may get another storm or 2. I don't think it's gone dead yet.

It'd be a shame to see the season go out with a whimper like Larry..

I don't believe the 2003 hurricane season has seen its last storm. Some of the closer analog years had an October pause before tropical development again occurred near or after mid-month. In fact, two of those years even had November development.

However, such development does not necessarily mean that anything more than a tropical storm might develop, nor does it imply landfall. In fact, odds appear to lean against further landfalling systems (on the Mainland USA or Canada) while suggesting 1 or possibly 2 more systems before the end of the hurricane season.

Best prospects for development per analog years: The Caribbean followed by the Gulf of Mexico.

I too don't think the Atlantic tropical season is over yet. I think there will be at least 1, and perhaps 2 more named storms.

But now I have "Carol of the Bells" playing in my head. LOL!

Also don't use christmas carols as reasonning fro the end of Hurricane Season.

Here in Australia they were playing them in banks about 2 weeks ago.

I still believe we will see one Major cane come out of the Caribbean. Probably get a 10 to 14 day lull before that happens as we wait for a pattern change. I see 2, perhaps 3 more named storms; one major. Then its bring on winter. As a sidenote NWS Melbourne sees a strong cold front coming through on Sunday night, all the way through Florida and they claim that signals the dry season has started. One more good pulse for the tropics; then one straggler. then its goodnite tropics by halloween

The tropics aren't done by any means, IMHO. I firmly believe there's room enough for one more storm to develop before the season is out.

I just got in and am busy eating right now. Just another typical 10 hour work day in the life of this postal worker, and takes just as long to get caught up.

You can't declare the season over till it really is. We have plenty of time left for something to develop. Will it? That is the big question.

agree Jacki. November 30th is the last day for hurricane season. It ain't over until it's over, good statement. Certainly a possibility.

Then there are the coastal nor' easters and that's a whole other story.

If my memory is right, there have been hurricanes in every month. The season is just a grouping wherein the vast majority fall.

Go to hurricanealley.com and look for the historical record by city. Maybe that or other sources will tell you how many hit your island over the last century.
And on what calendar date.
Unisys or some such site might also have it. Try a new thread asking the pros here for a link to the cane history of your island. I just dont know the sites that well.
But some of the folks here have amazing knowledge of sites.

So few offseason hurr's...that is why I picked May as the month to aim for with orbital sunshade controls.

But to our friend who began this thread, i say Yes, the season is about over,..so relax and get to thinking about other things.

Offseason canes are just so rare.

Youall ever hear that instrument made of glass bells? Nice. what's the name ? I forget. Carillion? Merry Christmas, y'all.

Weather53,

To date, there have been 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes (3 of which have been major: Fabian, Isabel, and Kate).
