Larry remains a minimal tropical storm, but not many places are seeing tropical storm force winds. At 7 PM CDT, Larry was centered about 35 miles east of Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. Larry was moving south at 2 mph and this motion is expected to continue. Thus larry is expected to gradually dissipate over land during the next 24 hours. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts, mainly in isolated squalls over the Bay Of Campeche. Otherwise winds are below tropical storm force sustained inland. Minimum central pressure is 1004 mb or 29.65 inches. The bigger storm is heavy rains with another foot possible in isolated areas overnight tonight into the day on Monday. Thus flash floods and mudslides are a good possibility.
Meanwhile Hurricane Olaf remains a hurricane at 5 PM PDT 8 PM EDT. Reconnaissance aircraft recently located an eye with Olaf. A hurricane warning remains in effect for the Pacific coast of Mexico from Punta San Telmo to San Blas including the Islas Marias. A tropical storm warning remains in effect fpr the coast south of Punta San Telmo to Lazaro Cardenas.
A hurricane warning means hurricane conditions are expected within 24 hours or less. A tropical storm warning means tropical storm conditions are expected within 24 hours or less. Watches and warnings maybe extended northward into Baja California and the west coast of mainland Mexico later tonight into Monday. Interests in these areas should monitor the progress of Hurricane Orlaf.
At 5 PM PDT, Hurricane Olaf was centered about 120 miles south southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico.
Olaf was moving towards the northwest at 8 mph and this motion is expected to continue. On this track Olaf will parallel the west coast of Mexico. However any track slightly to the right will result in landfall on mainland Mexico within the hurricane warning area.
Maximum sustained winds are near 75 mph with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is possible during the next 24 hours. Minimum central pressure measured by the recon hurricane hunter plane was 992 mb or 29.29 inches.
