A stalled out front remains inplae over southern Florida. A broad tropical low pressure system is centered over the Yucatan Pennisula moving in a general west direction. The southerly flow east of the low is transporting moisture into Florida from the Caribbean. As this interacts with the front, the air is forced up, thus very heavy repeating rains and unfortunately some major flooding. Some rivers in south Florida have been in levels, which haven't been seen in about 20 years. Definitely a disasterous rainfall event, especially in Naples area.

You said it! 6-8 inches of rain in Naples today and about 4 inches in Bonita. Roads are closed, many flooded but open and all in all a real mess. Schools and government office may be closed tomorrow due to the flooding as we expect more rain overnight. For now it has let up some but driving home from work was no picnic. We've lived here for 30 years and except for the no name storm in 1982, this is the worst I remember.

Everyone in the area please be careful. :o

My yard is now an exquisite vibrant green color through no effort on my part. My rainbarrels are full again. It's been raining all day, maybe two or three inches, very cool and peaceful. Reminds me of a much warmer western Oregon. I vote for one day a week of flodding and inudation all year long.

Non-Floridians should keep in mind that flooding in most of South Florida involves puddles of water, which in severe cases can be a foot or two deep. This might make driving certain low lying roads difficult or impossible, and some people unlucky enough to live in a house in a slight depression will have their carpets and furniture ruined yet again, but the houses don't get washed away by any raging torents or anything like in other parts of the world. This is after all the state of swamps, and every now and then mama nature reasserts herself.

Y'all keep those canoes handy down south of Tampa  Seriously, sorry about the endless rain on already soaked ground. Hope it abates soon.

On the east coast of SFL, we've had 3" in 2 days. I
feel really bad for the west coast. Seems like they've been getting hit with every drop of rain in the Gulf, all summer. Stay safe guys.
Still light rain here. Wonder what today will bring.
More of the same. Ya think?
