Good evening everyone. Hurricane Juan is making landfall right now in Nova Scotia. Just received an ob of 56 mph in Halifax., Nova Scotia. Meanwhile tropical storm Kate is holding her own in the eastern Atlantic with little change in strength expected for the next day or two.

Kate is moving towards the northeast at near 17 mph. This motion is expected to continue for the next day or two with a decrease in forward speed expected. Tropical storm force winds with kate extend outward up to 230 miles from the center. Minimum central pressure is still 997 mb or 29.44 inches.
Hurricane Juan is making landfall over Nova Scotia at this time. Canadian data buoy 44142 between 7 and 8 PM EDT this evening reported lowering pressures freom 981 mb to 975 mb respectively and winds up to hurricane force. Waves at that buoy were reported at 40 feet.
Hurricane force winds could still be experienced in Nova Scotia over the next hour or two as Juan is making landfall right now. A recent ob of 56 mph was reported in Halifax, Nova Scotia. However any hurricane force winds will likely be in gusts as colder sea surface temps are making the boundary layer more stable.
A heavy rain and wind warning remains in effect for portions of Nova Scotia including Prince Edward Island. At 11 PM EDT, the center of Hurricane Juan is over the coast of Nova Scotia or about 30 miles southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia. If you're plotting at home, the coordinates are latitude 45.8 north, longitude 63.5 west.
Juan is racing towards the north at 32 mph and this motion is expected to continue. This would take Juan over Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Isalnd during the next 6-12 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are near 80 mph with higher gusts. Juan will quickly weaken over Nova Scotia and become extratropical as well.
Minimum central pressure is 974 mb or 28.76 inches. Storm surge flooding of 3-5 feet is possible near and to the right of where the center makes landfall. This includes the Halifax area.
More updates will be given as it comes in throughout the night. Expect Juan to weaken fast though!!!
