Large Low Pressure Circulation Center approx 31 N 52 W

#1 Postby northjaxpro » Fri Nov 20, 2015 8:00 am

This large system has been spinning in the middle of the tropical North Atlantic for the past several days. For me, it seems that this system is trying to acquire tropical characteristics as convection is now trying to build more closely to the circulation center. The 7 a.m. TWD by NHC has this system at 1000 mb drifting slowly southeast.

I am curious if the trends I am seeing continues that it may be possible that this entity could make the transition to be named a tropical cyclone. I think it is possible we may see one last named storm from this area to close out the 2015 North Atlantic Tropical Cyclone season. We have already seen unusual patterns due to this strong El Nino this season. So, I would not be shocked at all if this happened.

I wonder, could this low be the one some of the models were showing would move sw towards FL and the Bahamas by thanksgiving time or right after?

Or is this something separate?

:uarrow: You know, I was thinking the same theory firerat. It could be the same feature. Ridging is forecast to be rather strong in the coming days out over the Noth Atlantic, so it is possible that this may be the feature that will move west/southwest in the coming days toward the Bahamas at the end of the 10 day forecast period.

Wow Northjaxpro, thanks for your insight! :)
It will be interesting to watch in the next several days to say the least. I also have been seeing the extended forecast for my area showing windy weather by Wednesday, indicating strong east winds likely due to that ridging.

This may be what the models were showing. To repeat myself, it's stunning to see how active the ATL has been this season, stumping many Pro Mets and amateurs alike.
