SANDY - Preps/Obs/Reports - NW Caribbean/Bahamas/Florida
Decided to create a thread specific to the northwest Caribbean at this time (Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola, Bahamas). For all the talk of what lies ahead, they will get the first hit.

We've been having afternoon showers over the past few weeks, sometimes heavy and into the night. This past weekend we had flooding in some areas and there was flooding two weeks ago.
As for today we were haing showers this morning but they have eased up now but we can see the dark clouds rolling in from the south. The biggest issue is no one took the threat seriously until now so the supermarkets ar now crammed I hear and at the largest one Pricemart I hear Police has to be regulating traffic. On another not the over 200 fisherman on the Cays have said they will not be evacuating to the mainland yet, they are waiting until last minute but that may be too late. I can just hear the calls for help on the news a day or two from now when it's too late.

Stay safe out there! Even if I am at the end of the line (possibly) for this, I don't want to ignore the immediate and certain threat. Prayers to those in the Caribbean!

You know it! Btw Gilbert is a bad word here lol. On a serious note I have done all my prep and encouraged all my friends and family to do likewise.

Flooding being reported already in the eastern end of the island. Those fishermen I spoke of earlier are now stranded and the Coast Guard is not going back. Their own fault for behaving silly.

Re: SANDY - Preps/Obs/Reports - NW Caribbean/Bahamas area
This applies to Florida's East Coast and the Bahamas:
VERY DANGEROUS SCENARIO IS DEVELOPING WITH SANDY AS SUFFICIENTLY SLOW MOVEMENT...PRE EXISTING HIGH SEAS...VERY LARGE WIND FIELD...AND ONSHORE FLOW DURING HIGH LUNAR TIDES COULD SPELL EXTREME COASTAL FLOODING AND EROSION FOR FLORIDA AND CERTAINLY BAHAMAS WED NIGHT THROUGH SAT. WW3 FORECASTING 12 FT SEAS TO REACH CENTRAL FLORIDA COAST BY 18Z THU WITH SEAS BUILDING 20-35 FT WITHIN THE COASTAL WATERS BY 18Z FRI. THIS COULD EVOLVE INTO A HISTORICAL EVENT AND FO'S ARE ENCOURAGED TO ADVERTISE THIS EVENT VERY HARD. NELY SWELL WILL CONTINUE TO IMPACT FLORIDA AND SE COASTS THROUGH THE WEEKEND WITH LONGER PERIOD SWELL INDUCING SUSTAINED RUNUP.
Bahamas Marine forecast:
THU
ATLC EXPOSURES...E TO SE WINDS 25 TO 35 KT. SEAS 11 TO
16 FT...BUILDING TO 20 FT LATE. ELSEWHERE...NE TO E WINDS 30 TO
35 KT...BECOMING NE 40 TO 50 KT LATE. SEAS 10 TO 15 FT.
THU NIGHT
NE TO E WINDS 40 TO 50 KT...SHIFTING W TO NW LATE.
SEAS 16 TO 26 FT ATLC EXPOSURES...AND TO 19 FT ELSEWHERE.
Also of note:
SEAS GIVEN AS SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT...WHICH IS THE AVERAGE
HEIGHT OF THE HIGHEST 1/3 OF THE WAVES. INDIVIDUAL WAVES MAY BE
MORE THAN TWICE THE SIGNIFICANT WAVE HEIGHT.
So those 26 foot seas could have a LOT higher random waves!

Are winds over 40 mph there right now? Typically services end by then.
