I am currently taking an 8 week course to become a certified Community Emergency Response Team member here in the Houston area. The class is being presented by the City of Houston OEM and is being taught by HFD personnel as well as personnel from the OEM office. It is preparing me to help Professional first responders in almost any disaster situation and in fact in some instances to be a first responder till Professional personnel can get to the site. It is all volunteer and in my eyes is a must for everyone who really wants to be ready for Weather disasters and any other disaster.
I hope everyone seeing this will check into taking a class in their area so you can truly be prepared yourself and be prepared to help others. Contact your local OEM office for information on classes.
I would also like to here from any CERT we have on the site already. I know of at least a couple who are trained.
