Here's an e-mail I sent to SSD webmaster about IR2 imagery

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Subject: A quick question about IR2 enhancements for you

Hi,

I noticed that you use different color enhancement tables for shortwave IR channel 2 on your tropical floater images/loops (teal/gray/black) http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/floater ... /swir0.jpg versus your regular Atlantic sectors (blue/cyan/white/gray) http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/catl/ir2-l.jpg

I was curious as to the reason for this - I assume it's based on user preferences. For what it's worth, I find the "blue/cyan.." table much easier to use, and wish you used it on the tropical floaters.

-----------------------------------------------
I'll let you know if/what I hear back from them. They're usually really good about getting back within 24 hours M-F.

I agree completely. I'm not sure what advantage the dark cyan images produce ... in my opinion they are unusable.
