GOM Homebrew end of next week?

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Sat Jul 30, 2011 2:27 pm

May turn out to be nothing but worth noting...the GOM is very warm and a low under the ridge could turn interesting.

From Tampa bay NWS AFD:

LONG TERM (MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY)...STRONG RIDGE OF 500
MB HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY WILL REMAIN IN
PLACE THROUGH THE EXTENDED PERIOD. BY MID WEEK...TROUGHING OFF THE
EAST COAST WILL START TO PINCH OFF INTO A CUTOFF LOW. THE GFS
PROGS THIS LOW TO DRIFT ACROSS THE PENINSULA THROUGH THE TAIL END
OF THE COMING WEEK. HAVE KEPT POPS HIGHER IN THE DAY 5-7 TIME WITH
THE UPPER LOW MOVING WEST INTO THE GULF OF MEXICO BY FRIDAY AND
SATURDAY. WILL ALSO HAVE TO MONITOR THE EVENTUAL DEVELOPMENT OF
THE TROPICAL DISTURBANCE THAT NHC PROGS WITH A HIGH CHANCE OF
DEVELOPMENT IN THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

I think CrazyC83 posted the AFD this morning on the Invest 91L thread. Something worth watching.

Won't get a mention in the TWO until something is cut off.

To say the least that catches my eye. It will be interesting to see 1. if it happens, 2. what, if any influence might be imparted by the future Emily in whatever form she is, 3. if this develops into something, is the ridge placed and strong enough to keep it coming West across the GOM to us? Without having looked at anything there isn't a whole lot more to say. We all know the weather for the next week is supposed to be even hotter than it has been in TX. Will that have an influence similar to what happened with Don?

Well lets lay odds it's going to happen  I just stocked my freezer for the next few weeks. The only caveat is that I have a generator to run the whole shop with two window units.

interesting that the ridge is progged to be strong enough to push this over the penninsula late next week. that would imply that it would also be strong enough to direct emily westward as well, rather than allowing a recurve. the path of least resistence for emily may be heading directly to where this is located, or where this opens up a pathway. hmmmm

I think the Tampa NWS ran two paragraphs together. The last sentence is refererencing 91L, not something that is expected to form in the GOM.
