Orlando before Tampa? I know Charley hit Orlando but one storm does not equal a trend. I'm skeptical of the methodology in this study.

Given the climatological data collected, Orlando edging out Tampa is understandable. # of Cat 1/2/3 hurricanes passing within 100 km of Tampa were 10/6/4 compared to 15/7/3 for Orlando.

I can't explain it but SFL hurricanes coming from the E or SE typically take a tracks between Upper Keys to Miami or Jupiter to Ft. Pierce (Includes Port St. Lucie). Miami to Jupiter sees few direct landfalls (Includes FTL & WPB), don't know why?

If one looks back in history the area between Miami and West Palm Beach has a rich history with direct hits. 1928 a Cat 4 hurricane made a direct hit on West Palm Beach. In 1933 a cat 3 hurricane made landfall in Palm Beach. In 1947 a cat 4 hurricane made a direct hit on Boca Raton/Pompano Beach. In 1949 a cat 3 hurricane made landfall in West Plam Beach. In 1964 Hurricane Cleo made landfall just south of Ft Lauderdale as a cat 2 hurricane.. In 1995 tropical storm Jerry made landfall in Palm Beach. And finally in 2005 Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the Hollywood area.
