You can see why it is very difficult for a system to survive because of the mountainous terrain there.

Very true, Luis, however... the system obviously has to move over those mountains; basically just a chance of the system moving over a lower terrain of the islands.

Especially now, with the westward movement... it will put the center of the system south of Cuba, which doesn't have as high mountains as Hispaniola.

For a low level center yes..but if this "strong Mid level center" survives then it will almost surely redevelop over water??? :roll: This has no low level center..the mid-level center won't brush the mountains!! :o
