quote:
"AND NOW, STORM 2K WEIGHS IN!
Another hurricane forecast, as super counterweight to Weather Research with their 8, is now in. Storm 2k has 24-27 storms!
If you read their site, you see most of the same things I have been saying about this since February. I want the battlelines drawn where I first started to fight, not where someone else decides to join the fight. However, one thing that is keeping me in check with 16-18, though the major threat on the coast, and yes the chance the kind of season they have comes to pass, is the QBO, which still does not look the way I have to see it to completely go wild. But now the range of forecast storms is 8 to 26 with me at 17 (16-18). "
I'm not sure of legalities of a direct quote. But, if it is a quote that affets you.
Please delete this post if you have to.
I thought he meant some other site, but I cannot find one with the same name?
Nor do I remember anyone here quoting numbers except in the forums.

Re: Storm 2K quote!
I think our site moderators should contact him and demand an edit/retraction of his posted comments related to S2K. That comment was downright incorrect and does not represent the consensus of this site's forecast numbers from our members.
Saying that was very demeaning, and a slap at the site, which does have a nice following now, and is continuing to grow. Just the fact that he is acknowledging us is a credit to the site's growing influence. However, a comment like that is damaging, and a sign that we are "competition" as an informational source to his product.
His off the cuff remark makes us all sound like a bunch of fringe lunatic weather geeks over here, declaring doomsday--not a collection of pro's and semi-pro's who actually have any education and skill at these things. He shoudl have asked a moderator what the "official" S2K call is, if we even do that here, based on our poll of responses/forecasts for the season.
Not a good move on his part. Pretty childish actually and certainly disrespectful. I suppose he was jabbing back at the vocal crowd here that is always bashing him, despite the fact that he does have skill.

I hope it was just an oops...because i do like him and don't want to assume the worst on his part.
Regardless, our moderators should contact him to correct the error.
If anything, it does get our site's name out there again when he has to print a retraction/apologize for the error.

All in the name of selling subscriptions. Even if it involves throwing out what you know as a met or inflating numbers.

This needs to be looked into. S2K does not issue any kind of forecast and we have had issues in the past with making sure everyone understands this with crystal clarity. This certainly does not help.
Just to be clear for anyone reading this thread: S2K is a forum, comprised of members - pro and amateur - and those members may post their own forecasts on the site, with the disclaimer of course.
Storm2K does not specifically endorse any of these member forecasts. S2K does not issue any forecasts of its own - EVER. We do not have a paid staff. We do not have meteorologists working for us. We just have volunteers who graciously give their time to posting their thoughts on this site, but that is all.

fact789 wrote:If anything at all should have been quoted it could have been the S2K poll currently running. "A consensus of S2k members regarding forecasts for the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season shows that <blah, blah, blah>..." or something like that would more appropriate in my opinion.
I really think he was referring to the 2010.28 forecast linked above.
FWIW I read it and it's not a bad writeup...and actually, it aligns with some of my own thoughts better than some of the 'better known' seasonal forecasts. I think all the cards are on the table for a hyperactive season.

Yes, I know he was talking about the linked forecast. I agree, it was quite a well written forecast.

Yeah I suspected it was an honest mistake, I dare say he wouldn't have time to take anything other than a quick glance and I suppose errors can be made in that case.
